Mestre BonecoKnown to many as Beto Simas, Mestre Boneco is one of the three founders of the group 'Capoeira Brasil' along with Paulinho Sabiá and Paulão. He began his martial arts training at a very young age in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He practiced with Capoeira group Senzala for 15 years in Rio de Janeiro before receiving his black cord on January 14th 1989 when the our group was founded. He was graduated to this highest of levels by the most reputable masters in Brazil, Mestres Suassuna, Ezekiel, Itapua, Peixinho, and Gato along with other great Mestres present at the ceremony. He has been training capoeira for 28 years and teaching all over the world for 21. He has over 45 graduated instructors all over the world. Mestre Boneco is a world recognized authority in Capoeira. He has also organized and produced over 15 International Encontros/Batizados (capoeira festival/graduation ceremony); and has taught at Yale University as well as at academies in New York, Boston, Chicago, Amsterdam, Munich, Paris, Strasbourg, Nagasaki, Sydney and all over Brazil. With a degree in physical education from the Gama Filho University, Rio de Janeiro, he is credited with bringing Capoeira to the forefront of the Brazilian sports, health and fitness world. Mestre Boneco's goal is to teach and develop Capoeira and to demonstrate its essence, roots, objectivity, poetry and discipline across the world. In 1998 Mestre Boneco moved from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Los Angeles, California, and currently teaches at a number of locations there. Mestre Boneco's newest role is as artistic director and creative force behind Benção Brasil, a not-for-profit Brazilian Cultural Center and arts collective that houses Grupo Capoeira Brasil, Los Angeles. Mestre Boneco brings the Los Angeles community the essence and discipline of the art of capoeira and the beauty of Brazilian culture.
